Land Use and Urban Planning

land use and urban planningUrban planning refers to laws divide cities into different areas depending on usage, which varies from family homes to industrial plants. Urban planning ordinances control the size, location and use of buildings within these different areas.

Urban planning serves to divide a municipality properly in different districts or areas and thus assign different land uses for each district. Generally, a city planning commission is responsible for separating the land-use categories (residential, industrial, commercial or agricultural). In some cases, further distinctions are made as the division of industrial districts in light or heavy industries, or the division of residential districts:
